Postpartum anestrus is a pathological condition in cows characterized by prolonged intervals between calving in family backyard systems. This causes the intervals between calving to exceed one year. The objective of this study was to compare the reproductive parameters of two family backyard dairy systems in the Bajío region of Mexico. The study was retrospective, using records from 2018 to 2024 for herd 1 and from 2019 to 2024 for herd 2. The calving interval of 92 and 40 records was compared, as well as the open days of 168 and 77 records from herds 1 and 2. In addition to the cost of the insemination service, a Student's t-test was used. The percentage of pregnant cows, services per conception, and fertility at the first, second, and third services were analyzed with the chi-square test. The results showed that there was no difference between the variables evaluated for the herds (p > 0.05). However, differences were found in reproductive cost (p < 0.05) between herd 1 ($743±29) and herd 2 ($357±40; p < 0.05). In conclusion, the reproductive parameters were similar in the herds evaluated. However, the cost differed between herds.
