Manuscript review and acceptance process
The journal uses a double-anonymized peer review process, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other, to minimize bias and prejudice during the review process. This type of evaluation seeks to guarantee the quality and impartiality of articles to be published in the journal.
Steps in the review process for a manuscript submitted to the journal
- Submission of the manuscript
- The author submits their manuscript, ensuring that it fits the journal's Focus and scope and complies with the guidelines and requirements established in the Instructions for Authors.
- Initial evaluation by the Editor
- With the support of an Area Editor, the journal editor carries out a preliminary review to verify the manuscript's suitability for the scope and compliance with the journal's scientific quality standards. He also ensures that the authors have submitted all the required files (manuscript, cover letter, and author form).
- If the manuscript complies with the basic criteria above, it proceeds to the next stage; otherwise, it may be rejected at this stage.
- Selection of reviewers
- The Editor selects experts in the relevant field to evaluate the quality and scientific validity of the manuscript.
- These reviewers are chosen for their experience and knowledge of the subject matter.
- Peer review
- The reviewers read the manuscript in detail and provide comments or criticisms on the scientific relevance of the work and on specific aspects of the document that help validate or improve the quality of the work presented by the authors.
- Since the review process is double-anonymized, the manuscript sent to the reviewers does not include the names of the authors and their affiliated institutions.
- Reviewers report
- Each reviewer sends the Editor a detailed report that includes a recommendation on whether to accept, revise, or reject the manuscript.
- The reviewer reports may suggest specific improvements or point out deficiencies in the work.
- Given that the review process is double-anonymized, the review reports sent to the authors do not include any personal details of the reviewers.
- Editorial decision
- The final decision about whether to accept or reject an article lies with the journals editor-in-chief, who considers the reviewers reports and recommendations. The Editor decision may be one of the following: "Accept the manuscript," "Needs revisions," "Resubmit for review," or "Reject the manuscript."
- Communication with authors about the editorial decision
- The Editor-in-Chief communicates the editorial decision to the authors, attaching the reviewers comments and any recommendations for improving the manuscript.
- Revision and resubmission
- If revisions are requested, the authors modify the manuscript according to the suggestions and resubmit it for a new evaluation.
- This process may be repeated several times until the manuscript meets the required standards.
- Publication
- Once the manuscript is accepted for publication, the final editing and layout are carried out. The galley proofs of the article are sent to the author for review and approval prior to final publication in the journal.
- Finally, the article is published in the journal and assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).
